SMÜGRIG = creepy

One of my main fascinations about the OLB is its language.
Whether genuine (which I believe) or reconstructed, it has helped me to better understand the origins, evolution and degeneration of my own language (and dialect) as well as some other.
Today I discovered an improvement on all existing translations that I know.

The word SMÜGRIG is used twice, in "Gosa's counsil".
It was translated by Ottema, Sandbach and Wirth as smerig/ dirty/ schmutzig.

[161/17]
THJU TÁLE THÉRA KÀLTANA.FOLGAR IS THRVCH THA SMÜGRIGE GOLE VRDERVEN
[Ottema & Sandbach p.219]
the language of the followers of Kaltana has been spoiled by the dirty Gauls
[Wirth p.115]

that flame will destroy all bad princes and hypocritical dirty priests
[Wirth p.116]

(Jensma 2006 also has "smerig".)

"Smerig" (dirty, filthy, greasy), seems to be related to smeer (grease, butter) en smeren (smear).
See etymologiebank.nl/smerig and gtb.inl.nl/smerig

First I considered a relation to "smuigerig": walmend, broeierig (smoky, muggy)...
gtb.inl.nl/smuigerig

Renovated 19th century 'smuiger' (ornamental fireplace) in farm
'De Moor' in Zuidermeer, Westfriesland. (Source: Westfries Genootschap)

But when I checked the Oldfrisian dictionaries, I found a more plausible (imo) explanation:

Wiarda (1786)
smugen - kriechen, sich schmiegen (creep, crawl, nestle)

Hettema (1832)
smuga, smoegje - smeeken, laag zijn, kruipen (beg, be low, creep)

Norsk:
smug - alley (steeg)
i smug - stealthy, secretly, on the sly (tersluiks, heimelijk, stiekem)
smughandel - black market, smuggle (sluikhandel)
smugle - to smuggle (smokkelen)

[added 30-10-'21: see Köbler: smuch, smuga]

The dutch smeken (to beg) and the german schmeicheln (to flatter, adulate) also seem to be related.

Interestingly, oldschool etymologies of these words do not mention any relation yet to the oldfrisian word.

Conclusion:
creepy/ kruiperige/ kriecherische GOLE & PRESTERA!

'Himmler's Bible' ~ German sources

List of German sources about the Ura Linda Chronik from Dr. Gerd Simon, University Tuebingen.
http://homepages.uni-tuebingen.de/gerd.simon/ULChr.pdf

It shows clearly that after 1934, the discussion was far from over and that secretly more investigations and studies were done, as requested by Himmler.

Heinrich Himmler (1900-1945),
Reichsführer-SS (from 1929)
and one of the founders of
"Deutsches Ahnenerbe" (1935)
Some interestings facts, for example:

18-9-1936 Himmler pays 900 DM for new research (9 months) by Maußer of the Oera Linda Book.

7-11-1936 Paper research would have reveiled that it is from mid-19th century (Kampfblatt HJ).
==>> if this would have been a serious discovery, why was it only published in the Hitler-Jugend magazine?!

25-2-1937 letter Himmler to Eckhardt:
In Sachen Ura-Linda-Chr. anderer Meinung.
(improv. translation: Avoid the term "transmigration of souls", but rather "rebirth in the clan, in one's own blood". Regarding Ura-Linda-Chr. different opinion. "All of German science could actually be happy and grateful if I proceeded more scientifically than science itself. I am not so bold as to assume from the outset that the Ura-Linda chronicle is genuine as science is boldly assuming from the outset that the Ura-Linda chronicle was a forgery." Richthofen and others not able to authenticate Ura-Linda-Chr. "Only the linguist can do that, who, as was usual with all such works, can carry out a necessary textual criticism in a really precise work, probably two years long, undisturbed by any demagoguery." (only parts between quotes are from letter, rest is paraphrased by editors of source list.)

4-6-1937 Another 900 RM for 9 months research by prof.dr. Otto Mausser, from Himmler.

. . .

1-7-1942 Otto Maußer died.

etc.

Some quotes from Himmler:

("A religion that sees women as sinful, and marriage as a lesser sin, will in the long run certainly succeed in sending every nation into the grave." — I don't know the original German version)
